There was no room service menu in my hotel room. I started the day at 5am, switched hotels, was interviewed on stage at a conference, had several more meetings, attended a reception for networking and literally ate 2 croissants the whole day; I was dead tired when I arrived to my hotel room at the Sheraton Downtown in Los Angeles.

No room service menu and no bottled water. I was literally glowing from the day’s events, so fortunately this didn’t faze me and my eyes darted around the room looking for the phone. I pressed the button for in-room dining and simply stated “one club sandwich please.”

“Anything to drink?” she replied.

“Yes, a bottle of water…. Since the room comes with no water, but an ample supply of coffee.”

“45 minutes sir,” she said, and I thanked her and began to unwind from the hectic and exciting day, relaxing by the window speaking to Rach and simply decompressing. But try as I might, I simply couldn’t get comfortable: I needed that club sandwich.

I swung the door open to my hotel room as soon as I heard a patter at the door. The room service attendant walked in, placed the tray down, thanked me, I thanked him, and quickly I began drooling with excitement, staring at the silver top covering what I perceived to be a delicious club sandwich underneath.

Now do recall, I did not look at the menu for this one so I literally had no idea what to expect – I was just glad they had it in the first place. But that being said, the first thing I noticed in this club was the huge slice of avocado – wow did not expect that coming! Local LA flair?

In one bite most of each quarter of this club sandwich was gone. There wasn’t much substance to this at all besides sliced turkey and bread. I could detect a ham, but no bacon (called room service to check) and this flavor was barely noticeable anyway. A thick slice of tomato was definitely there (as seen from the photo), but it was definitely gone from each quarter after just one bite…

… this was less of a club sandwich, and more of 4 club canapés centered on a plate together.

The French fries were a great and necessary addition to this club, and I thanked the hotel for supply an ample amount as I needed them to fill up – but the specialty ketchup, that was a bit unnecessary and sadly it left me craving for a more traditional tangy taste.

At the end of this sandwich I thought to myself “Geesh, I liked it I guess, but honestly it wasn’t that great. Have I had a Sheraton club sandwich before?” Low and behold I had – and it was one of the worst I’ve experienced:

http://www.clubsandwichreviews.com/2012/04/19/sheraton-hotel-guilin-china/. Yuck! Bad club sandwich memory!

Without any room service menu I had no idea what the price was – and I just signed the check when it came to the room. I was shocked to look at my folio the next day and see a $24 charge for this Club Sandwich… absolutely not worth it and an awful value for downtown LA.

And so the second Sheraton Hotel club sandwich has swung and missed – will my 3rd time be the charm? Will I even want to find out?
