I had just left Chuy’s. We were down in Atlanta for my friend’s wedding, and his father, Bruce, had mentioned Chuy’s after I had expressed my interest in investing in restaurant chains. Low and behold when I typed their stock symbol into Google, a location 15 min away popped up. I didn’t feel like Mexican, but I wanted to check their concept out. And Rachel was working, so the opportunity just presented itself.

And that’s how I ended up at Zoe’s Kitchen.

I left Chuy’s very intrigued by this TGI Fridays meets Mexico and hungry for something faster. I saw Zoe’s Kitchen just 30 seconds from Chuy’s. Their outside branding screamed club sandwich to me. As I drove bye, I couldn’t resist. I parked, tried to check out their menu online with no success (I had no idea what my zip code was, sorry) and decide to walk in anyway.

They had a self-branded Zoe’s Club Pita – sold!

Fast casual dining… interesting concept.

I went through the usual “Can I have the Club please?”

“Which side do you want” she said, pointing to the menu.

“What’s the best?”

“The best isn’t even on the menu! Probably grilled potatoes” and she explained how they make them. I’ll take those, and glad I didn’t choose from the menu…

I sat down and waited for my club. Made a phonecall. Wrote some emails. Checked in on Foursquare only to find a 10% off coupon for my first time at Zoe’s Kitchen…wish I had known before I ordered! Oh well.

The Zoes Kitchen Club Pita was ok. Solid mediocre. My scoring should reflect that.

The pita sandwich came with nice solid chunks of grilled chicken, ham, tasteless swiss cheese, ok shredded lettuce, a nice and ripe tomato, and bacon, all wrapped in a thin and crispy pita. The bacon they chose was more like British style rashers, however it had less fat and was honestly nice for this club. Health points.

Potatoes were actually really nice. Greasy, unhealthy, southern, but nice. Balanced out the healthy bacon.

I have no idea if Zoe’s Kitchen will survive, but I can see it appealing to the more health conscious individuals looking for easy, decent after-work take-home food. For me, I won’t go back, but I’m glad I tried the Zoe’s Kitchen Club Pita…. And the secret side dish.
