I had waited for this moment for so long.

The second I heard there was a Nobu Hotel in Las Vegas I dreamed to myself: what would a Nobu Club Sandwich be like?? We booked to stay there on our upcoming business trip, and night in and night out I dreamt of A) how a Nobu Club Sandwich would be presented, and B) what creative ingredients it would contain.

I have been to Nobu in Beijing, Hong Kong, Honolulu, Malabu, Las Vegas, New York, Miami and London – the brand is one of the most consistent (and incredibly delicious) Japanese establishments competing for global domination I have ever come across. Never before had I heard of such an incredible restaurant launching a hotel [chain]. This was an experience I was truly excited for.

But that aside, all I really cared about was the Nobu Club.

I ordered with a lovely woman at the concierge, and waited with baited breath… So curious what the presentation would be like… So curious what sides would accompany it… So hopeful it would… change the way I viewed what a unique and delicious club sandwich was like forever.

To make things even sweeter, I decided to order a Whitefish New-Style Sashimi as a side… what the heck, how often are you at a Nobu Hotel?

The knock at the door came and I immediately jumped with excitement off of the sofa.

The room service attendant came in, quite concerned that the whitefish had been overcooked by the warm plate on the way up and apologized, saying he would replace it if it did not meet satisfaction. But it did – and YUM – just as I remembered it. What a tasty treat.

The Nobu Club Sandwich looked… interesting. I was more curious than excited as I stared at it on my plate. The design and presentation was totally nontraditional. This was not what I was expecting – but honestly, shame on me! I can’t believe I was expecting Nobu to deliver just a slight twist on the traditional club… I should know better.

I quickly realized what this was: a club sandwich that had been rolled into a maki, and sliced to eat as pieces… now if I had thought my expectations through, a club sandwich maki is exactly what I should have been expecting at the Nobu Hotel.

The white bread was done wonderfully. Thin and delicate, each bite added a hinted flavor of grilled cheese (in a good way) that ensured the first hit your taste buds received was warm and welcoming. Inside the maki sandwich pieces was almost a creamy mixture of miso chicken, bacon bits, diced tomato, lettuce shreds, all in a mustard ponzu aioli.

The creamy mixture of ingredients with the aioli was both delicious and rich. It was hard to fully taste the tender miso chicken floating in mustard ponzu aioli. It made each maki slice feel like it had been puffed with ingredients inside a warm pouch – a lovely and heavy club sandwich.

But as heavy as the sauce mixture and bread was, overall each bite was really delicious. The ingredients worked so well together, and the bread couldn’t have been a better choice to hold the Nobu Club together. I could see the creamy texture turning some people off, but during my late night state, it really hit the spot. The overall taste was A+, and when you have a rating that high, it’s almost the only thing that matters.

The side salad was just ok. A bit bitter. I was told it came with chips but I did not have that… maybe mine was the healthy version. Of course, I looked at my in-room dining setup and thought to myself: What was the ketchup and mustard for?! Who would destroy this club with that? Questions I decided not to ask anyone but simply laugh to myself about.

Overall this club sandwich was delightful and distinctive. A bit creamy, as I mentioned, but yummy and filling for sure. The Nobu Club Sandwich was/is unique and awesome, a standout among a crowd. I would absolutely order this again, but very much agree with Nobu for keeping it on the room service menu. I felt like my expectations had been met, just in a way I was… well, not expecting. That might sound weird to you, but it’s how I felt after. This wasn’t a traditional club layered with sashimi precision accuracy; this was a Nobu Club Sandwich, and he truly made it his own.
