We spent the weekend in Palm Beach County, Florida, where the highway speed limit matches the average age: 70. West Palm, to Palm Beach, to Palm Beach Gardens…. Everywhere looked the same, but I wasn’t complaining… February in Boston is quite cold, and a quick 3 hour trip down south was the exact remedy I needed. And while I must have frequented 5 different country clubs during this visit, not one had a club sandwich. I was jonesing for my favorite food by the time we were leaving.

Palm Beach International Airport is a lovely gateway to Florida. Who doesn’t like this airport? It’s small, it’s convenient, it’s easy, and it has ample venues to purchase food and items from.  As Rachel and I waited for our flight, I walked around perusing the restaurants and cafes… until I spotted the Ultimate Turkey Club at Quiznos; “I will have that,” I thought to myself, a huge smile beaming across my face.

I watched the gentleman make and toast the ultimate turkey club sub-styled sandwich with bated breath. After turning away – and then back – for only a moment, it was already hot, wrapped, and in my hands. I was overjoyed, sitting down to dine on my comfort food near our flight’s gate.

Not the sexiest looking club, that’s for sure, and while I had a slight feeling of dread as I unwrapped the Quiznos creation, my first bite was great, to my surprise! A little heavy on the mayo, but the ingredients all jived together. Yum!

Great turkey… after my TD Garden Club Sandwich I was slightly worried about this next “sub-style” experience, but Quiznos delivered on this important ingredient. Tomato was lovely. Bread nicely toasted, slightly burnt, but crispy. Cheddar added a hint of flavor. The lettuce – albeit a bit overflowing – had a great, fresh crunch to it. The bacon, while too sparse, did taste good…. It was more like bacon bits though, something I wasn’t expecting but had been exposed to at nearly every location in Florida… they seemed to love the bits down here. Easier to chew? Lastly, the mayo was a little bit too much, and I learned in the future I should ask for “light on the mayo” from Quiznos… At under $6 though, this was true value for an airport. YES I would order this again… 8 inches of deliciousness [Editor’s Note: apparently I shouldn’t use that term].

Thanks Palm Beach International Airport… see you next year!
