We had the best tourguide in Park City taking us down the slopes during our second day on the mountain. Rachel hadn’t been snowboarding in four years and this was my second time skiing in eight; with Bruce leading us, we had nothing but great snow and zero lines, a perfect re-introduction to the sport for us to rekindle our skills.

We were loving life on Park City Mountain – Jupiter, to be specific – when the subject of lunch was broached. Everyone had different opinions, but Bruce was determined to find me my favorite: “If there’s a club sandwich on the mountain,” Bruce stated, “it’ll be at the Silver Star Café.” And off we went on the beautiful ride from Jupiter to the base of Silver Star lift… probably one of the nicest “traverses” in America.

I sat down with our group and Bruce went to the cash register to order. Determined to get me a club sandwich, I knew Bruce wouldn’t return to the table with anything but. While not on the menu, Bruce had asked them to prepare a club sandwich based off of their Turkey BLC. A custom-made club – this wouldn’t be my first, and definitely won’t be my last. I always enjoy a confident restaurant/café/chef who can muscle up a club on request – expectations are both high and low due to the impromptu yet bold and courageous move made by the team behind the register.

None of the ingredients changed from the menu; this club sandwich was packed with sliced turkey breast, smoked bacon, lettuce and onion, all on toasted sourdough, and all in equal proportions. With almost every bite I had the same amount of these ingredients, which was delicious, however the disproportionate bites were mainly full of lettuce and onion, a strikingly tangy taste when you’re expecting bacon and turkey.

The cranberry-cheery relish was a delightfully delicious addition to the sandwich, and while I enjoyed it I could see how this flavor might overpower the sandwich for some. Not me – I’m a cranberry-loving New Englander, so it warmed my senses well.  Bruce added sweet-potato chips for $.75 more to this meal, which was a lovely side but nothing special and didn’t really justify the extra cost (I had the regular French fries – they were just as delicious).

But one of the best parts about this meal was the ambiance. Nestled at the base of the Silver Star lift, most people who ski Park City don’t even known this café exists. The seating is usually always available, the food is top notch, and the location overlooks a beautiful winter scene full of snow, frozen lakes, mountains, and cross country skiers.

I highly encourage the Silver Star Café to add their club sandwich to the menu – they should take pride in what was a fantastic last-minute creation this was to appease my appetite and Bruce’s search efforts. This is by far the best place to eat lunch while skiing/riding Park City Mountain. Over the next 3 days we came back here twice more, leaving entirely satisfied each time. Thanks to Bruce for showing us the Silver Star, and thanks to Silver Star for making us want to come back again.
