Being in between jobs is a great position to be in, especially if you’re the one who said goodbye to the previous role and hello to the new one. I encourage everyone to savor a moment like this in life.

It was tough to curb my excitement. I was meant to be in vacation mode, but my eagerness to begin my new role was seeping through my desire to forget about it in the moment.

During my two week break, I decide to spend a few days up in Gloucester for some seafood and relaxation, where our summer house is. Gloucester has some of the best seafood in the world in my book, and buying lobster direct from the lobsterman on his boat, is just one of the perks of being here.

My father and I decided to spend the afternoon fishing. We were used to not catching anything, so hopefully this would be some nice bonding time between us. Some beers and some food and some fishing rods.

In order to stock up before the trip, we ventured to Last Stop, the most convenient store in Gloucester’s Eastern Point. While it has changed ownership several times (always becoming better, honestly) Last Stop has been a staple of my summer times from before I can even remember. We used to go there to ranch VHS tapes, its been around that long.

While I normally go for their lobster roll – one of Rachel’s favorite meals in Gloucester – we had five fresh lobsters waiting at the house to be cooked tonight, so their turkey club was exactly what I needed to relax on the ocean waters in anticipation of catching bass. Who could beat fishing, beers, vacation, and a turkey club?

Last Stop nailed it on an excellent club sandwich made for bringing on a boat or to the beach. No frills, no fuss, just a damn good convenience store sandwich. An easily grippable meal while pounding through ocean waves, each bite was tasty and exactly what I had hoped for. Great bacon that was clearly baked to last and not become soggy. Savory turkey that blended well with the bacon. And fresh produce to match the proteins.

While the meal wasn’t necessarily anything to write home about, it was filling and a great value. I enjoyed each bite of Last Stop’s turkey club sandwich, and my father and I got back to fishing. Spending 4 hours catching nothing. Good thing we had bought lobsters for dinner…
