I hate to sound like a snob, but I’ve never been to such a poor first-class lounge.

The British Airways First Class Lounge in Terminal Five of London Heathrow airport is a poor example of the “highlife.” The food, almost inedible, wouldn’t even be found at a school cafeteria. Coming from the First Class Lounge at LAX, this was almost laughable. And the coffee… I complained about it for weeks following this trip – I don’t think I’ve ever had undrinkable coffee until I arrived at this airport.

It’s clear that I actually had to escape the lounge if I wanted to eat during our four hour layover at Heathrow.

And so I hunted for a club sandwich.

Every place I went to served all day breakfast, but after searching and searching I could not find a club. It was only until I ventured into the back corner of the downstairs floor near gate 1 did I find what I was looking for at the Crown Rivers Restaurant and Bar.

A club sandwich for £9.99, this seemed like a great spot and solid value. I ordered mine to go and patiently waited to bring it back to the lounge, we’re at least I can get free beverage (and all you can drink Blue Label).

It might as well of been wrapped in a sandwich bag and placed on the shelf in WH Smith. What could’ve taken them 10 minutes? The this, paper-like bacon must’ve been sitting around for days, and the chicken was as dry as one could imagine. The lame piece of cheese almost looked sad, crying for help. And the tomato, you couldn’t help but pity it.

The side salad, absolutely smothered in ranch dressing, was disgusting.

So perhaps the First Class Lounge gets its food from the same catering that this restaurant does. What a waste of money.

So I departed for Cannes with an empty stomach, and a bad taste in my mouth from Terminal 5.
