Family tour in Northern California for Christmas holidays 2019! After flying into Sacramento, we rented a car for 3 days and covered over 400 miles. Lots of driving, lots of family, and lots of fun!

On a super rainy Sunday, we ventured into Elk Grove for an end-of-weekend late brunch. Trevor was on his best behavior, enjoying lengthy naps throughout the day, and we made our way to Jamie’s Café, the local recommendation, for our mid-day-meal.

Sports bar meets local diner, Jamie’s Café clearly brought in regulars looking for good food and whatever was on TV. The waitstaff all dressed in football jerseys, one could tell this was a popular stomping ground on Sundays… and since football in California begins at 10am, brunch is quite welcomed by this crowd.

Across from me, Rachel ordered a salad. To the left of me, her brother ordered biscuits and gravy. But in front of me, I waited for the “Join the Club” Sandwich to arrive, featuring every ingredient one would expect from a club sandwich in a diner-meets-sports-bar environment in Elk Grove.

No curveballs at Jamie’s Café – this club sandwich was a straight shooter, and a nicely layered one with a good ratio of ingredients. Easy to handle and easy to enjoy, the diner-bacon flavor emanated throughout each bite down. Nothing standout, but oh so satisfying, Rachel even went in for her own quarter.

With that said, there was one major standout item dumped on this club sandwich: the French fry.

Thick cut but sliced thin – it sounds impossible, but Jamie’s Café did it. Super crisp on the outside, delicately moist on the inside, these French fries were the best of both worlds. I was shocked I had not seen fries like this before. A first! And hopefully not a last… I ate way more French fries than I should have.
