Several recommendations came in for Cabot’s – I hadn’t been in probably 20 years, but it’s a place hard to forget. My brother goes yearly and is always fond of the experience.

Cabot’s is known for its diner style atmosphere that serves delicious American fare with sides of nostalgia on a daily basis. With Covid, they had expanded to an outdoor tented patio, which lacked the flare but took nothing away from the excitement I had walking in.

Another restaurant with a menu dedicated to different club sandwiches – I loved this selection! I was meeting up with a friend, Collin, who I hadn’t seen in a few years, and club sandwiches served under tent seemed the best way to re-break the ice over a catch up conversation.

Hard to choose, I was told by others to go for the tuna salad club, so I would be remised if I didn’t select that sandwich. Collin, on the other hand, chose the classic sliced turkey club sandwich – which we shared (and I reviewed next).

September in Boston is just lovely, and eating outdoors at Cabot’s on a Friday before a holiday weekend was a perfect way to enjoy the weather… especially since it was 113 degrees in Pasadena, where we had just moved from (no joke!).

Our club sandwiches arrived in minutes, and Collin and I compared and contrasted the two meals before diving in.

I started with the tuna salad club sandwich. Moist, not too creamy, the tuna salad was delicious and one couldn’t help but love the crunch of the celery so perfectly scattered throughout. It was the perfect accompaniment to the pumpernickel bread, and I was thrilled Cabot’s didn’t add more mayonnaise to the sandwich – that would have ruined it and drowned out the flavors.

There wasn’t a lot to say about the thin slice of tomato, the few leaves of lettuce, and the almost non-existent bacon – they were all there, but standing to the side, leaving the tuna salad and pumpernickel to steal the show. Was that a good thing? Not ideal in my book – the other ingredients could have enhanced this sandwich a bit further, but once again we have a club sandwich that could have used a better ratio of ingredient. Even just a rasher more of bacon really could have added both texture and taste to elevate this club sandwich.

The French fries – highly addictive. So fantastic, albeit, nothing special.

I enjoyed the club sandwich, was sure to finish all of the tuna salad, and moved on to the sliced turkey club (review coming soon)…
