Sofitel Wentworth, Sydney, Australia
Yes to Bacon Jam
Category: Hotel, In-RoomEnjoyed via in room dining at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth in the heart of the city's CBD.
I arrived in Sydney both well rested and completely knackered. 6 hour flight from Boston to Los Angeles, 6 hour layover, 15 hour flight to Sydney… I slept 6.5 hours on that 15 hour flight, I was extremely proud, but that still left me with over 8 hours of tired productivity.
Adrenaline always pushes me forward upon arriving to a destination. Three years since my previous trip down under, it was incredible to be back, this time in a truly post-covid era for the country. I chose the Sofitel Wentworth for its dead central location, which meant close to everything work and tourist related for my quick stint in Sydney. Three hotels in five days meant comfortable beds were of the utmost importance, and Sofitel always delivers on this need.
It was 10pm on my first night, and the wacky time difference – even coupled with the lack of sleep – left me quite hungry in my hotel room while I wrapped up emails for the day. There would be only one item that could calm my senses before a slumbering sleep, and of course, that would be a filling club sandwich. The menu boasted not bacon, but a sauced version of this protein, combined with the crunch of crispy chicken skin… let us dive in!
Bacon jam was so fun; flavorful and wildly whimsical, super savory and sweet, and oh so textured, it really enhanced each bite down, adding lovely flavor without the traditional approach. I need more bacon jam in my life. Don’t we all?
Chicken was very chicken salady. Chunky pieces of meat drowning in a bit of unflavorful mayonnaise. If only the bacon jam had been mixed with the chicken – that would have provided an out of this world experience. Instead, I was left with somewhat dry and chunky chicken salad. Apparently there was crispy chicken skin, almost acting as a bacon replacement, but I couldn’t find it in my meal.
French fries delightfully crispy and perfectly seasoned, this side was A+++ and highly addictive.
The best of one world, combined with the lamest of others, equates to a unique club sandwich that I’d never order again but really enjoyed in the moment. But yes, more bacon jam in my future, that is a must!
