I was having the most stressful day ever. And for all the wrong reasons.

What’s it like when you’re in sales, just attended your largest conference of the year, and all of your emails are going into everyone’s spam folder because of something that happened with Microsoft’s email exchange?

It’s the absolute worst. My livelihood was getting switched off like a faucet. And I was transferring back to Los Angeles from Canberra via Sydney, trying to follow up on some of the most incredible leads I could ask for, getting no replies.

Coupled with the Qantas Sydney lounge being absolute trash, I couldn’t find relaxation anywhere. Not Around me nor inside me. Turbulence everywhere.

Priority Pass gave me access to some pretty crappy food throughout the airport, and I just didn’t know what to do, considering my systemwide American Airlines upgrade appeared to not be going through and I knew I’d need a full stomach before getting onto the flight.

With stress over taking me, and a 14 hour flight to look forward to, I was emotionally lost.

Editors Note: Priority Pass is so ridiculous because every location encourages you to spend the full amount of money, which is way more food or drinking one ever needs. I take the moment to stock up on bottled sparkling water, a favorite beverage of mine I know I will enjoy over the next 14 hour flight. I also got a Goose IPA, couldn’t hurt. But junk food I couldn’t finish…

Anyway, back to the stressful moment.

I haven’t been stressed in a long time. I don’t get stressed. Sure, I get frustrated in moments, but stress hasn’t entered my world in quite some time. But when someone comes in-between me and making money, and I feel alone with limited resources, it drives me crazy.

Literally, in my darkest moment, when I felt all hope was lost before boarding my flight, I ran into Joe and The Juice, an \establishment I knew would have a staple club sandwich. My eyes lit up and the clouds parted around me. In my darkest moment, I found solace, and built up the courage to place my order.

One of the most successful international trips business trips I’ve ever been on, shouldn’t be ending with such stress. And Joe and The Juice saved me.

While fairly poorly constructed, with aspects of it both cold and hot, I devoured Joe’s club sandwich. The ingredients are solid. The chicken super moist and tender, the bread nice and crispy – in fact, some of the best rye bread I’ve ever had – and the avocado smooth and delicious. The pesto, what a solid addition to the flavors that were resonating in my mouth. Wow. Relaxation washing over me with each bite.

I could think of a few solid ways to improve this club sandwich, but in the moment, it was heaven. And instead of being stressed, I boarded my flight with a smile and a sense of calmness.
