A hotel conference focused on driving direct bookings is the topic that brought me to Mexico City. Three nights and two days did not leave nearly enough time to experience the city in its entirety, especially considering my days would be spent inside a conference hall, but alas, I knew I would make the most of the trip.

TripTease, our conference organizer, chose the St Regis to host, and provided us with generously discounted rates to enjoy.. and enjoy I did. The experience from arrival to room was embellished with excellent service and hospitality, and as I overlooked the city from my 9th floor room, I was eager to explore the capital knowing I would get to relax in this oasis.

With the spare hour I had, I embarked on a three mile run to see the area. This jaunt shed light on such fierce competition for dining options in the city – every block was densely packed with locations to enjoy seemingly fantastic food, overflowing with happy patrons chowing down on both street corner and within restaurants. I was blown away!

I arrived back at The St. Regis happy and hungry, and decided to order a club sandwich from their butler (via WhatsApp nonetheless), which I confirmed would be ready just after my shower. Success from every angle.

The St. Regis Mexico City club sandwich’s plating didn’t exactly exude confidence in deliciousness, but I decided to jump right in and sink my teeth into the meal. Glorious cheese, so wonderfully melting together with the bacon to create a harmony one only dreams of. The delicately shingled avocado added creamy flavor to the roasted chicken breast, delighting my tastebuds. A barely noticeable but ever-present hint of spice from a lightly sauced and evenly toasted bread enhanced every aspect of each bite down, filling my soul with flavor.

This was a damn good club sandwich that suffered slightly from holdability and presentation… but I would order it again in a heartbeat. The fries, they were just ok, but I didn’t really care, my face was beaming with joy.
